As far as I can see the freenx server can't find an appropriate X window manager corresponding with these session options, no matter what I did on either client or server (I wonder if the OP has installed xdm?) Anyway - after a *lot* of searching and not finding an answer, I simply changed the kde start command in /var/NX/etc/nf from startkde to startlxde and then told my client to use kde.
